HAT PATTERN

pink hatblkhat brnhat

This is a great hat pattern knitted flat, not in the round. Just choose a design, stitch and color and you can make a unique and interesting hat for yourself or as a gift.
Materials: Medium to bulky weight yarn works best.
Amount: I’ve been using various scraps of yarn for these so I’m not sure of how many ounces you will need .
Needle size: I used 8 or 9 for these
CO: 60= 3-6 year old 70=child to small adult 80= average adult head or whatever size will meet your needs.
Rows 1-? (ribbing stitch K2 P2) for about 1 1/2 inches for the brim.
Pick your favorite stitch (stockinette, seed, garter or do a combination as shown here) and knit for 8-10 inches depending on head size.
Decrease Rows
K2 tog for entire row
Purl next Row
K2 tog for entire row
Continue in decrease pattern until you have 15 –20 stitches left on your needle
cut a tail of yarn about 20” long and thread with yarn needle. Insert threaded yarn through stitches on knitting needle and remove knitting needle. Pull or gather tight and secure the crown with a stitch or two and continue seaming together making a flat seam to end.
Attach a pompom or tassel if desired or just leave plain.
You’re done!!!
Next pattern will show the slip stitch designs featured here.
